Crafting in 2012

It's fun and always makes me feel more productive to look back and see what I made during the year.  Do you do that?I've been feeling very unproductive the last week or so. I've enjoyed having lots of family time but I haven't spent any time at all at my sewing machine. I pulled out a couple of long lost knitting projects to work on in the evenings because I can be a bit more social while still "making". Mostly I've not been crafting. I'm really feeling the itch.

This is MOST of what I did this year.

Week in Review

The sewing room was buzzing with activity this week but I finished nothing.

I was listening to audio books while:

knitting two pair of socks - I'm on the second of each pairs
pinning up some roving - just over half finished with that ball of roving
making little stars - I have about a hundred of them so far
!helping P with a commissioned sewing project - we're 3/4 the way finished

I enjoyed listening to Jim Dale read the entire Harry Potter series so much last fall that I am listening to it again. I have heard the first three books but the fourth was not at the library when I went so I had to find something else.

Earlier this week I heard The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman read by the author and am currently listening to Year of Wonders A Novel of the Plague by Geraldine Brooks also read by the author. I love listening to Geraldine's voice.Do you like to listen to audio books? If so, which books have you enjoyed?

Think Spring

After a busy week of sewing I took some time yesterday to do some cleaning, and sorting, and putting things in order in my sewing room. I even found the top of my desk again!

One of the things I went through was a bag of thread that a friend recently gave me. Just look at all that pretty thread!

It sort of makes me want to drop everthing else and find a tiny crochet hook or tatting shuttle and make yards and yards of fine lace like this.

For now, the thread is piled high in a basket in the living room and called spring decorating.

That will keep it out of the sewing room for a little while longer.

Seriously.

I think I could happily work on projects the rest of my life with materials I already have in the house.

Too Many Irons in the Fire

Maybe it's because I finished up so many projects in a hurry for holiday gift giving. Maybe it's because it is a new year which is full of new beginnings.

Whatever the reason, I have started a lot of projects the last two weeks. Some are special orders and others are items for myself. I am even trying to write up a few knitting patterns from some of my designs.

Maybe I have too many things going at one time.

Today when I got up to get my coat so that I could pick up M from school, I walked through the kitchen and saw a batch of cookie dough in the mixer bowl from this morning. How did I get out of the kitchen to work on something else before I baked the cookies?!?

I am trying not to think of all the OLD projects that I have started...Focus.

I need to FOCUS

.Oh, yeah, I also ordered some yarn from Knit Picks.
