As I have been making more tiny two inch star blocks I've been thinking about my "Twinkling Stars" quilt that I started LAST September. The stars in that quilt are three inch liberated stars.Last February I quilted the main section of the quilt leaving a wide nine inch border unquilted. At the time I thought it needed a big feathered vine in it and was intimidated by the idea.
I have gotten the quilt out many times and thought about what I could quilt in there. I tried plain cross hatching, and seriously considered a closely stitched bishop's fan.
Still, I think it needs a big feathered vine. So, I've told myself that this needs to be the next quilt I finish. You heard me so now the pressure is on. I need to mark it and get to quilting.Really, what have I been waiting for? When I finish I can snuggle up under THIS!
Here's hoping I can get it done.
The Right Design
I have been looking at this Twinkling Stars quilt for some time trying to decide on the "right" quiting design for it. Something curvy to go in around the stars. It has been sitting in the sewing room being a weight on my mind.I finally realized that there is no one right design. Whatever I do will be right as long as I am happy with the result. The quilting process should be fun and not stressful. So I jumped in with a mini swirl pattern to fill in around the stars. I am leaving the stars unquilted so that they will "float" above the background a little. I like the result so far.
I'll try not to think about how big the quilt is and just concentrate on the part I am working on.This is going to take a LONG time. But that is OK. I enjoy the process.
I'll have plenty of time to think about how to quilt the wide border area.
Straightening Up
I finished sewing all the blocks for drunkard's path today. What do you think about this layout? As I said before there are too many choices.Today also involved a bit of cleaning up. D helped me move a big file cabinet. It was sort of right beside/in front of one of the windows in my sewing room and cast a big shadow. It is now on the far side of the room in a corner. My room seems a bit brighter and the space in the middle is bigger. Yay.Miss Petunia and I also did a big clean out of her desk in preparation for the start of Kindergarten!
Quilted Strips
I've been quilting on the strippy quilt and it is almost finished.I am really pleased with the grid quilting on the star strips. And I must say that the dual feed on the new machine makes straight line quilting a dream.
All I have left to do is the background quilting around the feathers and maybe some curlicues in the narrow blue strips. I tried a little meandering next to the feathers but I am not thrilled with the results.
Maybe some lines echoing the basic curve of the vine would be better.I think I let it rest tonight and look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow.
