Lucky Girl with Linen

I finished the second Lucky Girl quilt for Jennifer last week and took it to Lake Michigan for a photo shoot. Here's a little pool ambiance for you.I added a bit of linen to this quilt. This is a pretty linen that I thought was a perfect match to the brownish mustard color in some of the Lucky Girl prints. I used it for a few scattered pinwheels and also the binding. I think it gives the quilt a bit of a sophisticated flair.

I stitched in the ditch around each of the pinwheels but left the solid parts blank. The rest of the quilt is quilted with an allover shellish design. I think I've got the hang of stitching in the ditch with the longarm now, at least on straight lines.
Here's a fun shot from the back with the sunlight shining through.
The finished quilt is 60 by 78 inches.

Lucky Girl Progress

I'm almost finished with my next Lucky Girl quilt forJennifer. I just completed the quilting and took it off the frame. I hope to get the binding on and share it with you soon. For now, I'll share my progress successes with you.Check it out!! I can stitch in the ditch now! I love learning new skills. I still need some practice on curves but look at that straight stitching there. I'm pretty thrilled with it.And look how close I was to running out of thread on the last prewound bobbin.I am a LUCKY GIRL; the stars must be aligned in my favor this week!

Lucky Girl

In my summer of slow sewing I finally finished a quilt!!This is a commission quilt for Jennifer Paganelli and uses her upcoming Lucky Girl line of fabrics. It was pretty fun to put together even if there are loads of partial seams. I love the herringbone effect.I had fun quilting it with loopy loops on the longarm.Finished measurements 60 x 80 inches.I should probably also mention that my oldest son designed this quilt for me. Yeah, he's helpful like that AND he's good with quilt math.I'm working on another more involved quilt from the same fabric line so stay tuned for that!

Blue Garden Dress

Miss P has a new dress and she calls it her "Blue Garden Dress".The fabric, from Jennifer's  Happy Land line, was leftover from the backing of one of the quilts I made for her. Miss P loves the fabric so we zipped out a dress this week. She chose the pattern from my vintage collection. She likes that it is pretty enough for "fancy" wear but also looks great with jeans. Since it was SNOWING yesterday and warm weather seems to be taking its time this year we need some dresses that look good paired with pants. Miss P doesn't like to have "freezy legs" on the playground at recess and I don't blame her. I love her practical style. It is also a great dress for playhouse time.I used an old Simplicity 6764 pattern but instead of using a facing, I lined the bodice for a more "finished" inside.Blue garden dress insideI love that these old patterns never seem to go out of style.

Crazy Love Quilt

I finished the binding on this Crazy Love quilt this morning. I am pleased with how it turned out. I used a blue Carolina Chambray from Robert Kaufman for the triangles and binding. I like that the zig zag of the blue makes diagonal channels of color.I chose to do minimal quilting on this to echo the diagonal lines of the blue. I quilted in the ditch on all of the seam lines and then one walking foot width to either side of the blue triangles as seen here. You can see a corner of the  pink tone on tone fabric Jennifer sent for the backing in the picture below. P was hoping there would be some extra of that fabric! The binding on the quilt is 1/2 inch wide.It measures 64 x 79 inches.Fabrics are from the Crazy Love line coming out this spring from Jennifer Paganelli.I started my next scraptacular quilt today. It already has some Crazy Love scraps sewn in. It will be one of those quilts that includes all kinds of fabrics. After a couple of quilt finishes I found that my scrap bin is over flowing again and the tiny stars are just not putting any dent at all in that huge pile of fabric.  I have started a scrap intensive quilt. I'll share more later, after I have a few photos.
